Dr. Tan Mei Ying Melanie
MBBS, MRCP, FAMS (Geriatric Medicine, Singapore)
Your Consultant Geriatrician in Wellness and Independence as You Age.
Dr Melanie Tan, a Consultant formerly in the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), graduated from Monash University, Australia in 2010. She returned to Singapore thereafter, and started her House Officership locally. She subsequently completed her junior residency in Internal Medicine, followed by senior residency in Geriatric Medicine, both at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore.
She was conferred her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2015, and joined the Fellows of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2018. During her time at NUH and NTFGH, she regularly partcipated in the training of medical students, residents and nurses. She also was previously on the Credentialing & Privileging committee for nurses (she was involved in the mentoring of NTFGH's first Geriatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner). She also was a member of the hospital's Falls committee, and was invited as a member of Singapore's Sarcopaenia Workgroup.
She also developed the HOME (Help Optimize & Mobilize Elders) Pilot unit at NTFGH, aimed at enhancing elderly patients’ mobility and independence through innovative, patient-centered approaches. This resulted in ward modifications, changes in nursing practices, and culiminated in the formation of NTFGH's Elder Bundle (which has been implemented hospital-wide). She is formerly the Treasurer, and currently serves as the Vice President of the Society for Geriatric Medicine Singapore.
Dr Melanie Tan is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Service Ambassador Silver Award, demonstrating her deep commitment to excellence in clinical care.
