How Power of Attorney (LPA) Works
Setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) might seem overwhelming at first, but with the right support, it’s a simple and reassuring process.

Decide the Powers Granted Clearly define what your donees can handle, from personal welfare to financial decisions.
Complete the LPA Form Fill out the form (Form 1 for standard powers or Form 2 for tailored powers). A lawyer may assist with Form 2 if needed.
Certify the LPA Have the form certified by a lawyer, doctor, or psychiatrist, who ensures you fully understand the process and are acting freely.
Submit for Registration Register the LPA with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG). A 3-week waiting period allows for any objections.
Once Registered The LPA becomes legally binding, ready to be activated if you ever lose the ability to make decisions.
